Discussion Questions (Adults & Mixed Groups)
Why do you think Jesus addressed the man’s sins before his paralysis? What does that reveal about God’s priorities?
When have you come to Jesus for one problem, but He addressed something deeper in your life?
The Pharisees were right that only God can forgive sins. What does Jesus’ response show about His identity?
Why is it easier to say, “Your sins are forgiven” than, “Get up and walk”? What point was Jesus making?
How does the resurrection of Jesus serve as proof of our forgiveness?
What’s the danger of basing assurance of forgiveness on feelings or spiritual highs?
How can we help our friends see that Jesus meets their greatest need, not just their most obvious one?
What difference does it make in your daily life to know that your forgiveness is grounded in a historical fact, not just an inner feeling?
Daily Devotions for Adults (Mon–Sat)
Format: Passage – Reflection – Prayer
Monday: The Greater Need (Luke 5:17–20)
Read: Luke 5:17–20
Reflection: Jesus surprises everyone by addressing the man’s sin before his paralysis. My greatest need isn’t outside me, but inside me — forgiveness.
Prayer: “Lord, help me see my greatest need as You see it. Thank You for forgiving me in Christ.”
Tuesday: Faith on Behalf of Others (Luke 5:18–19)
Read: Luke 5:18–19
Reflection: The man’s friends carried him to Jesus. Who am I carrying in prayer to Christ today?
Prayer: “Lord, place on my heart those I should bring before You in faith.”
Wednesday: The Greater Authority (Luke 5:21–24)
Read: Luke 5:21–24
Reflection: Jesus proves His authority to forgive sins by healing. His authority is not claimed — it’s demonstrated.
Prayer: “Lord Jesus, I trust Your authority over my sin, my past, and my future.”
Thursday: Visible Proof (Luke 5:25)
Read: Luke 5:25
Reflection: The healed man “stood up” — a hint of resurrection. Jesus gives visible proof of invisible pardon.
Prayer: “Risen Savior, thank You that my faith rests on fact — not feeling.”
Friday: The Greatest Proof (Luke 24:1–7)
Read: Luke 24:1–7
Reflection: The resurrection is God’s final word: “Paid in full.” Our forgiveness is anchored in history.
Prayer: “Father, thank You for raising Jesus from the dead — the proof I can stand on.”
Saturday: Living the Proof (Acts 2:32–39)
Read: Acts 2:32–39
Reflection: Because Jesus rose, Peter boldly declared forgiveness in His name. My forgiven life is meant to be lived as proof to others.
Prayer: “Lord, help my life display the reality of Your resurrection.”
Daily Devotions for Youth (Mon–Sat)
Simpler language, more relational connections
Monday: What’s Your Biggest Problem?
Read: Luke 5:20
Think: The paralyzed man’s biggest problem wasn’t walking — it was sin. What do you think is your biggest problem?
Pray: “Jesus, thank You for forgiving me — the thing I need most.”
Tuesday: Friends Who Carry You
Read: Luke 5:18–19
Think: Who are your “roof-breaking” friends? Who helps you get closer to Jesus? Are you that kind of friend?
Pray: “Lord, help me be a friend who brings people to You.”
Wednesday: Authority Check
Read: Luke 5:24
Think: Jesus proved His authority by healing. Who else in your life has authority? Why is Jesus’ authority different?
Pray: “Jesus, I want to trust Your authority in every area of my life.”
Thursday: Stand Up
Read: Luke 5:25
Think: The man stood up. That’s resurrection language! What does Jesus standing up from the grave mean for you today?
Pray: “Thank You Jesus, that because You rose, I can rise too.”
Friday: Fact > Feelings
Read: Luke 24:6
Think: Our forgiveness is based on a fact: the empty tomb. Why is that more secure than just a feeling?
Pray: “God, help me trust the fact that Jesus rose, even when I don’t feel close to You.”
Saturday: Living Proof
Read: Acts 2:32
Think: Peter told the crowd, “We are witnesses.” How can you be a witness to your friends about Jesus’ resurrection?
Pray: “Jesus, help my life show others that You’re alive.”
