The Faith that Amazed Jesus
1. Discussion Questions
What kinds of things usually amaze us in everyday life? Why do you think Jesus is only recorded as being amazed twice?
Why is it significant that the Roman centurion—not a Jewish leader or disciple—was the one whose faith amazed Jesus?
How does the centurion’s humility (“I am not worthy…”) challenge the way we often approach God?
What does the centurion’s confidence in Jesus’ authority teach us about trusting God’s Word today?
Jesus was amazed both by unbelief (Nazareth) and by faith (Capernaum). If Jesus looked at your life, what would amaze Him?
How can we live out a faith that “marvels” Jesus in our families, workplaces, and church?
2. Adult Devotions (Mon–Sat)
Each day includes a short Scripture, reflection, and application prayer.
Monday – Faith in the Unexpected (Luke 7:1–5)
Read: Luke 7:1–5
The centurion was the last person anyone expected to show faith. God often works in surprising places and through surprising people.
Reflect: Where have you seen God work through someone unexpected?
Pray: “Lord, help me not to judge who is ‘worthy,’ but to believe You can work in anyone.”
Tuesday – Humility Before Christ (Luke 7:6–7a)
Read: Luke 7:6–7a
The centurion said, “I am not worthy.” True faith starts with humility, not self-confidence.
Reflect: Do you approach Jesus with a résumé of your works, or empty hands of faith?
Pray: “Jesus, strip away my pride. Teach me to come to You in humility.”
Wednesday – Trusting His Word (Luke 7:7b)
Read: Luke 7:7b
“Just say the word, and my servant will be healed.” Faith rests not on what we see, but on the power of Christ’s word.
Reflect: Where do you struggle to take Jesus at His word?
Pray: “Lord, give me confidence in Your promises, even when I can’t see the outcome.”
Thursday – Authority of Jesus (Luke 7:8)
Read: Luke 7:8
The centurion understood authority. He recognized Jesus’ command over sickness and life.
Reflect: What area of your life needs to be brought under Jesus’ authority today?
Pray: “Jesus, reign over my words, actions, and decisions. Be Lord in every area.”
Friday – Faith That Amazes (Luke 7:9)
Read: Luke 7:9
Jesus marveled at the centurion’s faith. Imagine the Lord of the universe amazed by your trust in Him!
Reflect: Would Jesus marvel at your unbelief or your faith right now?
Pray: “Lord, strengthen my faith so it reflects Your greatness.”
Saturday – A Global Faith (Matthew 8:10–11)
Read: Matthew 8:10–11
Jesus saw the centurion as a glimpse of the worldwide kingdom—people from every nation trusting Him.
Reflect: How can you live as part of God’s global mission today?
Pray: “God, let my faith shine and point others to Your kingdom.”
3. Youth Devotions (Mon–Sat)
Shorter, punchier, with relatable language.
Monday – The Underdog of Faith
Read: Luke 7:4–5
The Roman soldier was the “last pick” for faith, yet Jesus noticed him.
Think: Do you ever feel like you don’t belong in church? Jesus sees you anyway.
Action: Encourage a friend who might feel like an outsider.
Tuesday – No Flex Zone
Read: Luke 7:6
The centurion didn’t brag about his power. He admitted, “I’m not worthy.”
Think: What’s one way pride keeps you from depending on God?
Action: Write down one area where you need to say, “God, I can’t do this without You.”
Wednesday – Say the Word
Read: Luke 7:7
The soldier believed Jesus could heal with just His word. No show, no proof—just trust.
Think: Do you need to “see it to believe it,” or will you take Jesus at His word?
Action: Memorize one promise of Jesus and repeat it today when you doubt.
Thursday – Who’s in Charge?
Read: Luke 7:8
The centurion respected authority. He knew Jesus was in charge of everything—even sickness.
Think: What area of your life are you trying to control instead of letting Jesus lead?
Action: Pray, “Jesus, You’re in charge,” whenever you feel anxious today.
Friday – Faith That Makes Jesus Say “Wow!”
Read: Luke 7:9
Jesus was amazed by this man’s faith. Imagine your faith making Jesus say, “Wow!”
Think: Would Jesus be amazed by your faith or by your doubts right now?
Action: Share one story of God’s faithfulness with a friend or family member.
Saturday – God’s Big Table
Read: Matthew 8:11
Jesus said people from all nations will be part of His kingdom. Faith is for everyone.
Think: How can you show love to someone different from you this week?
Action: Invite someone to church, youth group, or to hang out in a way that points to Christ.
